Everybody knows that laughing feels good, but few realize how valuable these simple tools can be in improving our everyday health and well-being.

World Laughter Day is a day where people can relieve some stress and laugh.

Studies have shown​ that just the act of smiling, whether the result of real joy or an act, can have both short- and long-term benefits on people's health and well-being.

  1. It makes you feel better: If you laugh a lot, you’re going to be more of a positive person, and this can impact your life in so many different ways.

  2. It makes you more attractive and approachable: We are naturally drawn to people who smile. There is a real physical attraction factor linked to the act of smiling.

  3. It makes you look younger: Not only can smiling make you more attractive it can also make you look more youthful. The muscles we use to smile also lift the face, making a person appear younger.

  4. It will make other people happy:Smiling is contagious, so when you light up the room with a smile, other people tend to read into your emotions as well with a similar feeling of happiness and joy.

  5. It reduces stress hormone levels: This helps to cut the stress and anxiety that impacts your body. Moreover, the reduction of stress hormones can cause a higher immune system performance. 

  6. It works your abs: One of the advantages associated with laughter is that it will tone your abs. The muscles in your tummy begin expanding and contracting when you’re laughing. This is similar to when you exercise your abs intentionally.

  7. It improves cardiac health: It will get your heart pumping, enabling you to burn around a similar amount to the calories you would burn while walking at a slow to moderate pace. 

  8. It lowers blood pressure: This can reduce your risk of a heart attack or a stroke. 

  9. It triggers the release of endorphins: These are the natural painkillers within your body. They are released when you laugh. This can help you to feel good all over while easing chronic pain at the same time. 

  10. It boosts T-cells: These are specialized cells in your immune system, which are simply waiting to be activated. When you laugh, T-cells are brought to life, and they can help you to fight off sickness.
