How to make your own disinfectant hand gel

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

You can easily make disinfectant hand gel yourself by using aloe vera and alcohol. The disinfectant in the hand gel is the alcohol. Its concentration must be at least 60% to have the disinfectant effect.

The advantage of making your own hand gel is that you know exactly which products are being used.

100 ml aloe vera gel

1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vegetable glycerine

5-10 drops of tea tree essential oil

5 drops of lavender essential oil

5 ml alcohol 70-90 %

  1. Add all ingredients in a glass measuring cup and mix with a hand blender.

  2. Pour the gel in a soap dispenser. You can always fill a small bottle or jar with the gel from the soap dispenser.

  • First, test the gel on a small part of your skin to make sure there is no allergic reaction. No irritation? Then you can just start using the gel!

  • Please note that this gel feels slightly different than you might be used to, as it is a natural product. Always use a small amount at a time, otherwise it will feel a bit sticky.

  • Can be stored at room temperature in an air-tight container for 6 months.
