Easy Ways to Start a Natural Detox after the Holidays

Updated: Jan 17

After plenty of meals and treats, you may feel a little limp and tired after the holidays. Then it's time to get rid of all the excess waste in your body and feel fit and energized again! I hereby give you some easy ways to start a natural detox.

DRINK A LOT

  • Drinking water helps to get rid of accumulated holiday waste and keep us feeling energized. It is recommended to drink an average of 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day. It helps to put a glass on your desk or next to your bed. Are you tired of just water? Then add some fruits, vegetables or fresh herbs to your water.

  • Herbal tea is packed with antioxidants, making it an ideal way to detox after the holidays.

EAT HEALTHY

  • Eliminate simple carbohydrates (such as white pasta, rice or bread), refined sugars and processed foods from your daily diet.

  • Choose more fiber and therefore more fruit and vegetables (preferably in all colors and variations). They make you feel full and protect our intestinal system. In addition, they stimulate our digestion and help the body to stay in balance.

  • Try to choose organic fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Not only because of the pesticides, but also because organic products have a much higher nutritional value. Find out more in the following article, "Simple Ways to Start an Organic Lifestyle."

  • Fresh vegetable soup is an ideal detox meal that still provides your body with sufficient nutrients. The fiber in vegetables and herbs cleanse your intestines.

EXERCISE

  • Exercise is beneficial for a good immune system. In addition, it also stimulates your intestines to remove toxins more quickly. It is therefore important to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day to support your detox process.

  • It is also advisable to breathe fresh air regularly so that you get some vitamin D again.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

  • The human body needs sleep. During your sleep, the body cleans itself. It makes new cells and antibodies.

The combination of a healthy diet, exercise, fresh air and adequate sleep is fundamental for a complete detox and for a transition to a healthier lifestyle.

The health benefits of a natural detox:

  • CLEANS THE LIVER: With a detox cure, the toxins are removed from the body, namely the liver is cleansed. The toxins stored in tissues and cells affect the immune system, our mood, metabolism and our ability to fight disease.

  • INCREASES ENERGY AND MENTAL ALERTNESS: A life without toxin overload reduces fatigue and mood swings. It also increases your energy level so that you are more alert and fitter. Ingredients such as lemon, rosemary and mint will rejuvenate the body and can improve mental alertness. Furthermore, these powerful foods also help with hydration after exercise or a busy day.

  • SUPPORTS DIGESTION: The digestive system gets a chance to rest because the body does not receive heavy meals.

  • REDUCES INFLAMMATIONS: A number of ingredients reduce inflammation and swelling in the body. Watermelon, cucumber, strawberries and ginger are among these beneficial ingredients and they also ease digestion.

  • PROMOTES HEALTHY SKIN: By removing toxins, you get a more beautiful skin. Daily exposure to toxins and chemicals clogs your skin. This causes wrinkles, dryness and other signs. You will improve this through a detox and will minimize signs of aging making you look younger.
